Community Starter Kit and GotCommunityNet Downloads

by Stephen M. Redd 13. October 2008 07:18

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I no longer have archives of the old CSK and GCN mod files.

I do have downloads for full release versions of the CSK and  GCN.

If anyone out there still has a copy of the old mods, I'd appreciate it if you would contact me and let me know. I'd love to continue hosting the downloads here for those few who still use the CSK or GCN platforms.

The GCN release contains almost every mod my site used to offer for download. While both the CSK and GCN are mostly obsolete these days, if you are still running a CSK site then I highly recommend you at least update to the GCN release.

GotCommunityNet (GCN) Downloads:

For the GCN releases, the documentation folder that ships with the product contains updated information about how to install the GCN, migrate from CSK sites, as well as a thourough list of the features that were added to the origional CSK for the GCN release.

CSK 1.0 Parent Sections Mod

by Stephen M. Redd 14. January 2008 06:48

Allows any section type to be a parent to other sections. Want to have an Article section be a parent for a link and a book section? Then this is the mod you need. Designed for the CSVS version of CSK 1.0.

NOTE: This is the CSK 1.0 upgrade of my old Any Section Parent Mod; however, it does work quite a bit differently. See the included readme.txt file for more details.

The CSK ships with incomplete support that would allow any section's page type to be a potential parent to other sections. Unfortunately, the shipping design of the CSK only expects one page type to be configured to be a parent section (the "parent section" page type).

This mod makes a slight modification to allow any page type to be a parent section. For example, you could have an Article Section be a parent to a Links section and a Books section. Please note that you will need some way for users to navigate to sub-sections. This mod should work for all versions of the CSK regardless of language since it only includes database changes.

This mod only affects the database, and should work with all versions of the CSK 1.0.

Designed to work independently, but works even better in conjunction with the Multi-Level Section Menu component.

CSK 1.0 Database Ownership Fix

by Stephen M. Redd 14. January 2008 06:37

Fixes database object ownership issues. These problems can cause an error loading the home page: Invalid object name 'dbo.Community_IsContentVisible'.

You just transferred your CSK site to a production server, transferred it to a hosting provider, or just installed the CSK and you get an error like this when you open the home page:

Invalid object name 'dbo.Community_IsContentVisible'.

Your site probably has a database ownership issue where the stored procedures and functions in the database are not owned by the dbo user.

This fix should solve the problem for you.

Contains two files: a fix for existing databases and a seperate file for manually creating new databases.

DO NOT TO RUN CreateDatabaseObjects.sql AGAINST AN EXISTING DATABASE, IT WILL DELETE YOUR DATA!!!!

USE ONLY AlterProcedureOwnerShip.sql on EXISTING DATABASES.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Color-blind friendly discussion icons

by Stephen M. Redd 14. January 2008 05:40

Modified versions of the CSK 1.0 discussion icons that uses more than just color to indicate read/unread status.

Replacment icons for the Community Starter Kit 1.0 discussion and content item images.

The discussion and content icons in the stock CSK indicate the status (read vs. unread) with color (red/blue) being the only differentiator. The general shades of these colors are very similar when converted to gray-scale. For a person that is mostly or completely color-blind, these icons are indistinguishable from one another.

This file contains replacement icons that indicate read vs. unread status differently. Read items will have a checkmark, unread items will not. The new icons maintain the same color differentiation as the original icons and are very similar in general appearance.
